Fernandez, Eliecer Crespo, “Euphemistic Strategies In Politeness and Face Concerns”, Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies, vol 13, no. 4 September 2005, pp. 77-86.

In this article Fernandez explains about the strategies of euphemism. They are Impoliteness as a Taboo area, Politeness and Euphemism, and Euphemism as face work. The article aims to shed light on the Implications of Euphemism in relation on the notion of face within the framework of linguistic politeness, moreover, the author use data collections from several libraries to identify each of Euphemism strategies. This article is useful to my research topic, as Fernandez explained in knowing the Euphemism strategies. The main limitation of the article is that the data collections are too simple and short, so that the readers sometimes difficult to understand for defining the statement. Therefore, Euphemism plays a crucial role in politeness and face management strategies.

Davoodi, Zahra, “On the Translation of the Taboos”, Iranian Translation Directory, vol 6, no. 5, September 2009, pp. 90-102.

This article is information about the different ways to translate a taboo from one language into another one. Davoodi tries to identify the Taboos between English and Persian in each of her statements. This article can be helpful to the translators, especially the amateur ones having some choices on the front to translate the taboos as a part of Euphemism studies. The author applies some examples from Persian to english to make the statement more clear. The article is useful to my research, as Davoodi explained about the Translation role in Taboo. This article, however, is just a brief and only focuses for the Iranian Translators. Translators, as mediators between the source language and the target language; also, must be  aware of the cultural differences.

Fernandez, Eliecer Crespo, “Sex-Related Euphemism and Dysphemism: An Analysis in terms of Conceptual metaphor Theory”, Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies, vol 30, no. 2, December 2008, pp. 95-100.

The article discusses about the function of conceptual metaphors in Euphemistic and Dysphemistic use in Interpretations of Sex-Related Euphemistic and Dysphemistic metaphors. The article shows that metaphorical terms and phrases reffering to sexual taboos which is can be helpful to my research topic. The author use a mapping or set of conceptual correspondences from a source domain to a target domain. This article is useful to my research especially in describing a concept of Euphemism and Dysphemism. The main limitation of the article is that the author tends to believe and does not critize what the correspondences said. The author, therefore, hope to have demonstrated that metaphors have the power not only to create the new reality, but also to shape already existing Euphemistic and Dysphemistic refferences and interpretation.

The seminar discussed censorship that still hampers the creativity of Indonesian’s films. Bramantyo proposes that Censorship Organization (LSF) and the Government needs to be proofread themselves. Besides, they were considered not to have the precise rules in the exegesis of the national film products, so that it can be large obstacle in creative film making. This is especially in the Pornography scenes and other sensitive issues.
In Bramantyo’s Seminar, he claims that Censorship Organization (LSF) should not exercise the control in film making they do currently, moreover, it is important that in the future there is nothing harmful anymore, especially in the development of film as a part of creative economics for Indonesia to move forward. Bramantyo continues, “Your most creative ideas are going to be come from your mind on the front lines who see a different way during the film making. You have to create your own film for those ideas to be watched. So the question is, how do make that happen while LSF has already banned your film? Hoping for standing ovation from the audiences? This is redundant!”. Nonetheless, it is my experience that I have ever joined in my friend’s film project. Although the process in getting a permission was too long-winded, however, for me it is not a big deal whether our film had already banned by LSF or not. Even if there is a Pornoghraphy scene. This is especially for illegal organization which is under the name of Islam. For example, Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). They do not have any rights to forbid the film. Also, Indonesia is not a muslim country such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Pakistan etc.
Bramantyo points out, there are several things in distinguishing between local (Indonesia) film and Hollywood. They are money and licensing. My first reacton to his statement is to believe. It is true that the American Government trhough Hollywood spends their finance for making film up to 70 percent per year. This is the strongest pace and barely exceeding than other countries. Moreover, to get a license in U.S is very simple; for instance, America through Swank Motion Pictures provides both public performance licensing rights and licensed films to numerous non-theatrical markets including for indie films (local film). Those are the things that Indonesia does not have and should be learned from hollywood to get better. Furthermore, there are still several Production Houses in Indonesia which are have a good quality and might be are just minor ones. For example, MultivisionPlus, Frame Ritz, MD entertainment , etc.
I agree totally with his statement. This is an interesting point for the Government and also other institutions to see the things from the right side, especially in filming industrial. Therefore, there are not only the negative impacts, but also the positive impacts. It is now can be proven that Indonesia was create two movies and both of them are success in abroad and box office. They are Modus Anomali and The Raid.
During a colloquium attended by Hanung Bramantyo as a Producer and Director, Deputy minister for Economic Cooperation Edy Putra Irawady and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of Bunda Mulia University (UBM) Kandi Dahlan was very impressive!

May 26 th, 2011 My childhood

At least 11 years ago, when I was a child, my life was so in serious condition. All the big problems still plugged in my heart. Such as cheated by other children and foolishly by the teacher. Yeah I am so foolish about my earlier life, especially when I was a child. The little tiny dump boy named Yan Bastian was very idiot. Ugly too. I feel like a jack ass. Actually I do not want to remember again, subconsciously. Short and tidy seems like a dummy. It takes you into a nightmare all night long. That bad memoir such blew off my mind fastly.
In every night I am remember that things I want to cry. Tears up on the pillow. Even I forced my cat to gave his hug. Tears up and tears up until out of the fresh blood. Seems like a force murder. It means that I want to end my life right now with any other way. Suicide perhaps.
The most comfortable about my childhood is only when my parents still complete. I am really miss them. Seems like fly into a thousands miles to the sky. My childood’s life was so beast. Many bad sides inside.

June 1st, 2011 My best city in US

San Fransisco is my favorite city in the United States. It is beautiful, clean, great, not too big, and it has something for everybody. I love the streets and buildings in San Fransisco. The Streets wind up and down the hills, with beautiful old brick and wooden house on either side. One of my favorite things to do in San Fransisco is to ride the cable car. It takes you to most parts of the city. It is not a very comfortable ride, but it is exciting and the views you get from the cable car are wonderful. I like the weather in San Fransisco. My friend told me it never gots too cold and hot. The summers were pleasant. The fresh breezes blew off the ocean and the sky was always blue. It rains a lot in the winter, but it never gots very cold.
Another thing I interest about the city are the restaurants. The seafood restaurants, with crab and lobster, are my favorites. You can also get great chinese, Japanese, American and European food in San Fransisco. The transportation system in San Fransisco is excellent. Taxis are clean and comfortable. The bus system is good. There is BART, a fast subway. And the cable car is a convenient way to get the Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf. You can also walk to many places very easily.
San Fransisco has lots of tourist attractions. You can climb up Coit Tower and see the view. You can walk along Union Street and look at the boutiques and shops. The Golden Gate Bridge is famous. And I want to drive across it, and then look back at the view of the city from the other side. There are lovely parks, great museums, a beautiful Japanese garden and a fascinating Chinatown. There is always something to do in San Fransisco; theaters, nightclubs, ballet, opera, San fransisco has them all.
So it is easy to see why San Fransisco is everybody’s favorite city, and mine, too. Oh god I want to go there.

June 2nd, 2011 The Shopisticated Trains

Nowadays, the fastest way to get from one city to another in most countries is to fly. It is sounds crazy. But the trains of the future will change the way we travel. In Japan, a new kind of train that floats on air is being tested. These trains are called “Magnetically Levitated Trains”, or simply, MAGLEVS. They move on a magnetic cushion of air. In a recent test on Japan,s Kyushu Island, a magnetic train reached a speed of 320 miles per hour. The Japan National Railway hopes that by 1990, trains like this can replace the Shinkasen, the Bullet trains that travel between Tokyo and Osaka at 130 miles per hour. In Emsland, in northwest Germany, a 196-passanger maglev train will soon be tested at speeds of 250 miles per hour. German engineers hope that in the future, a maglev train system will link the cities of western Europe.
Plans are already being prepared to test maglevs in the United States. They could become an important part of the transportation system. Many American cities are a few hundred miles apart. A flight by air between cities like these only take an hour, but getting to the airport often takes longer than the flight itself. Airplanes are also less efficient than trains. They use a lot of fuel just getting into the air. Trains have another advantage over airplanes. They take their passangers directly to the center of cities.
The idea behind maglev trains is a simpleone. The opposite poles of magnets attract each other, but a pair of poles (a north and a north pole, for instance) repel each other. Either repulsion or attraction can be used to float a train.
There are still many problems to solve before the maglev can be used, especially in Indonesia. Laugh out loud. But I believe that someday the MAGLEV will be comes true.

June 3rd, 2011 Supermarkets are everywhere

Nowadays, supermarkets are found in almost every large city in the world. But the first supermarket was opened only fifty years ago. It was opened in New York by a man named Michael Cullen. A supermarket is different from other types of stores in several ways. In supermarkets, items are placed on open shelves. The customers choose what they want and take them to the checkout counter. This means that fewer employees are required than in other stores. The way products are are displayed is another difference between supermarkets and many other types of stores. For example, in supermarkets, there is usually a display of small interview inexpensive items just in front of the checkout counter: candy, chocolate, magazines, paperbacks and so on. Why are they there?
Most customers who go to supermarket buy from a shoping list. They know exactly what they need to buy. They shop according to a plan. By the time the customers reaches the checkout counter, he or she is feeling pleased and relaxed because the task of shoping is finished. In this happy mood, the customers sees an attractive display of inexpensivethat were not on the shopping list. Now the customers feels like buying something just for his or her own pleasure and enjoyment. Many customers buy from these displays of product near the checkout counter, and this is exactly what the owner of the supermarket hopes they will do. Another important fact in helping a customer choose what to buy, is where a product is placed on a shelf. A product that is placed at eye level on a shelf sells much better than one which is placed on a lower or higher shelf. A product which easy to see sells best. Manufactures pay a higher price to have their products placed at eye level on the shelves.
The comfort and convenience of shopping centers is another factor which makes them popular with customers. Large parking spaced are provided, and many supermarket stay open untill very late at night. For indonesia, especially in Jakarta, finding a supermarket like a finding an ant. Supermarkets are every where.

June 4 th, 2011 The Day a Tiger Attacked My Friend

Two years ago I went to visit my friend, Rozi, North Sumatra. We decided to go to into the jungle for a little adventure. We left Rozi’s house at six in the morning with two friends of his, Ahmad and Saiful. It was hot, but Rozi told me to wear shoes and trousers to protect me from snakes.
In the jungle there is a lot of wildlife, but we were trying to find big cats, especially tigers. However, it is unusual to find tigers in the afternoon because they sleep in the heat of the day. Then, in the distance, we saw a tiger and Rozi told me to be very quiet. We crept nearer and found a dead deer, still bleeding. This was the tiger’s lunch. Suddenly I started to feel very frightened.
We heard the tiger a second before we saw it. It jumped out like a flash of lightning, one hundred kilos plus weight and two metres long. I looked into its eyes and face, and saw right down the animal’s throat. It grabbed Rozi’s leg between its teeth, but I managed to pull Rozi away. Ahmad shouted at the tiger and made it go back into the grass by throwing the branch he was holding. We quickly escaped to left the tiger eat its lunch. That night it was impossible to sleep.
